    Default Put a Pontiac v8 in your 1982-92 Firebird…

You can now bolt a real Pontiac v8 in to your 1982-92 Firebird with out any modifications. Pontiacgroup.com is now offering a set of block mounts that will allow you to use any 1965-79 Pontiac block. These mounts will use your existing Chevy v8 frame mounts or we can supply you with new stock (rubber), urethane or solid frame mounts. Also we have headers that are designed for this engine swap for D port heads and Edelbrock/Round port heads will be soon to follow.

UPDATE: Indian Adventures has been shutdown now for a while so the parts are currently not available. There are a few people looking to offer some of these parts but to date I have not seen or hears of any yet.

    Default Tranny etc.

What kind of accomodations will need to be made for the transmission? Will it need to be changed out, or is there an adaptor plate? If it is changed out, what would the replacement , (TH-350 orTH-400, long or short tail, etc), be to keep the same length drive shaft? How about pulley set-ups for the A/C, P/S, and Alt?

Sorry to blast you with all these questions, I just happen to know where there is a perfect project car with a blown motor. It has an automatic tranny. But, What if it did have the manual?

The transmission that will fit without any mods would be the 200r4. Also since the 200r4 and the TH350 (short tail) are directly interchangeable it too will work too with a shifter mod or change. On P/S and Alt pulley spacing would not be an issue but A/C has not been verified with the headers as yet.

I used the original 77 400 motor mounts with the stock 88 FB GM V8 frame in my 88 bird. Motor sits alittle high, altenator had to be move down low and I put in a standard steering box from a S10. Either have to use a remote oil filter or the ram air adaptor to clear the frame.

Can you get headers of the shelf for these yet? Exhaust system looks tough to do.

Headers are available for D ports now and round ports are due out soon. These headers & mount system will accept the stock oil filter housing. I do not know if your method of mounting the motor will fit these headers though. :?

    Great looking board!

Warped, after seeing your kit, i'm going with a Pontiac plant. I'll need it by years end. Need info and a plan first. I've really been waiting for it since i've owned my 82, 17 years now.

If you have this in archives, please point me. What about some other issues. I'll be using a manual trans. with the original z-bar, Headers ok? I'm thinking you did'nt build the headers for an 82 with a z-bar in mind. Only year they had them.

Fan shroud. I'll probably use an electric anyway, but wondering.

A/C. Did Pontiac put their centrifugal pumps on the right side, say on a 301 Bonneville? I'm wondering about bracketry and also A/C box clearance.

    Thanks!

The manual trans will not be an issue and looking at the headers the z-bar should be ok since they all head down. As for A/C compressor, they all were on the passenger side; the only problem there would be you might have to modify the 301 brackets. The project car used an electric fan, but one should be able to work something out with a regular fan setup. The A/C box has not been tested as of yet.

I wonder why we don't see more of these traditional pontiac powered cars around. The cars are fairly inexpensive and pretty common. I have always like the late 80's GTA's and Formula firebird bodystyles.

I have wondered too. One would think most people would want to “correct” the 1982+ non-Pontiac engine flaw. There have been many people that were surprised to hear such parts are available for both the 82-92 F Body and 78-88 A/G Body cars. I just guess we haven’t got the word out enough, so let’s get on it guys

I have actually seen a '74 455 powered '89 GTA, but it was 6 or 7 years ago. That was the fastest street driven GTA I have ever seen, and from the exterior it looked pretty much stock. Talk about a sleeper!

But now days, it seems that 400's and 455's are getting pretty hard to come by.
Looking for a harmonic balancer bolt, I found out that all the local salvage yards had CRUSHED everything prior to 1989!

So if you have a 400 or 455 lying around, you are sitting on gold!

Will the 455 fit under a stock Turbo style 1982 Hood..?

Probably not. I had to use a stock height intake for the 85GP and the F body's have a lower hood still.

yes without a air cleaner or with a dropped base air cleaner. mine has a stock turbo hood with a performer RPM and a nitrous plate and a holley on top. Ive had the air cleaner on, but I think it chokes it. I always planed on making a pan so the hole in the hood was doing something but have yet to get around to it.
